Happy endings

Dear Lori,

Our family feels so blessed and we are so thankful that we found Sunkissed Acres.  Dumplin’ and Bixby will have a forever home filled with love. Dumplin’ will indeed be a “Mighty Steed” in the eyes of his littlest admirers at the Children’s Garden.  They will be able to come here and love and enjoy him and he in turn will give them the benefit of his warm soft fur for touching, his soft kind eyes for gazing and his gentle nuzzles for delight. Most of all he will share his love with them the way only a horse can. They can leave their special needs behind and just enjoy being with him…he won’t judge, he doesn’t care…he just wants to love them.

Bixby is part of the crew and loves his “brothers” and keeping watch over the chickens, ducks and Dumplin’. He is the sweetest thing, so gentle and absolutely adorable! Look out Squirrels! Bixby is on watch!

Thank you so very much for all you have done, and continue to do. The world needs more people like you!

On June 7, 2008 I went up to SKA to help put up three portable “race track” stalls that had been donated to Lori and met “Sissy” and “Tito,” two dogs that Lori had taken in due to their past abuse. Both were very shy but sweet and friendly. Allll day long Lori kept suggesting I adopt Sissy. “No, no” I said “We have a dog and that’s enough.” HA!

On June 22nd, my husband was able to come with me back up to SKA for Heart The Hinny’s Photo Op! Along comes Sissy and, like he always does, he bends down to pet her. Lori and the rest of the workers were sitting taking a break and Lori sees David petting Sissy. She says “Uh, that dog is terrified of men.” “Wellll,” I said “Not THAT man!” LOL J Not five minutes later, Sissy let David pick her up and as she licked his ears, Lori said “You have another dog!” We sure did.

A week later, Lori delivered Sissy to us and we changed her name to Missy. She and our black English Lab are now best friends and love to play together. Missy is also a very good barn dog. Where once she would cower in terror at seeing a leash, she now jumps up and down in delight knowing that the leash means “Bye Bye in the car”….not a beating. How anyone could be unkind to this amazingly sweet, affectionate and kind dog is beyond my comprehension.

“Taylor is a great addition to the lesson program.  He works well with the intermediate riders and he loves to jump.”
